Storage

Plan the time between two homes.

Storage can bridge a gap between collection, international departure and the date your new home is ready. Discuss the location, handling, access and release arrangements as part of the moving plan; availability and charges depend on the shipment.

Where storage can sit in your moving plan
  1. 01Origin storage

    Hold before international departure

  2. 02International transport

    Follow the agreed shipment route

  3. 03Destination storage

Hold before the home is ready

Storage may be needed at origin, destination or neither. This shows possible positions in the journey, not a requirement to store twice or a promise of availability.

Should storage be at origin or destination?

The useful starting point is which part of your schedule is uncertain. Storage before departure and storage before final delivery solve different problems and can change the handling and onward arrangements.

What should a storage quotation explain?

Ask for the full storage scope rather than only a weekly or monthly figure. The total arrangement may involve receiving, handling, preparation, storage and the eventual delivery.

  • Location: where the goods will be held and who is responsible for them.
  • Charging period: when storage begins, minimum periods and how part-periods are treated.
  • Handling: loading in, loading out and any additional preparation.
  • Access: whether individual items can be retrieved, the notice required and associated work.
  • Redelivery: booking notice, vehicle access and the destination services included.

Confirm the applicable protection arrangements throughout the storage period. Keep the agreed terms with the inventory and quotation so you can check them if the dates change.

Can you retrieve individual items?

Do not assume storage works like an accessible self-storage unit. Ask how the shipment will be held and whether retrieving a particular item would require moving or unpacking other goods.

If you already know you will need something, flag it before collection. A clearly identified group of essentials may be easier to plan around than an urgent retrieval request after the shipment is stored.

How do you move from storage to delivery?

Confirm that the home, access and recipient are ready before requesting a delivery appointment. Agree notice requirements and any outstanding instructions with the coordinator.

A changed delivery address can also change access, distance and handling. Update the move details and request confirmation of any revised services or charges before the final arrangements are made.
